GTA 6 Ditches the Old Sprint Button for Good
GTA 6 replaces the series' awkward face-button sprint with a standard left-stick click, matching modern control conventions.
A Long-Overdue Control Change
If you've spent any time with previous Grand Theft Auto games, you'll know the frustration: sprinting requires holding or mashing a face button rather than simply clicking the left analog stick the way almost every other modern action game handles it. That quirk has stuck out as an oddity for years, and it looks like Rockstar has finally put it to rest.
According to footage shared by Italian YouTuber MikeShowSha, GTA 6 moves sprinting to the left analog stick click — exactly where players' muscle memory expects it to be in 2026.
Why It Matters
This might sound like a minor tweak, but control feel has a real impact on how natural a game feels from the very first minute. A few reasons this change is worth noting:
- Muscle memory: Players coming from virtually any other third-person game won't need to re-learn a non-standard input.
- Accessibility: Holding or repeatedly mashing a face button to move quickly is more physically demanding than a simple stick click.
- Modern standards: Other long-running franchises, including Halo, have updated their control schemes over the years to stay in line with genre conventions.
It's worth noting this information comes from a content creator rather than an official Rockstar source, so treat it as unconfirmed until the game is in players' hands.
This is just one of several reported quality-of-life improvements alongside bigger features like a map said to be roughly three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's and a new Criminal Profile system.
