GTA 6 Leaks: Rockstar Calls Situation 'Heartbreaking'

Rockstar Breaks Its Silence

Rockstar Games has officially responded to the wave of GTA 6 gameplay footage that began surfacing earlier in August 2026. In a statement posted to its official social channels on August 26, the studio described the situation as "heartbreaking" for everyone on the team — a rare and candid acknowledgment from a studio that typically stays quiet on sensitive topics.

The studio noted that this is clearly not how it envisioned fans experiencing the game for the first time, especially after years of development and anticipation.

What Leaked and Why It Matters

The current wave is the second major GTA 6 leak incident. The first, back in 2022, resulted in Rockstar and parent company Take-Two identifying and pursuing the person responsible. So far, no such resolution has been announced for this more recent breach, which reportedly includes substantial gameplay footage and story details.

Spoiler warning: Some circulating footage contains story elements. If you want to go in fresh, it may be worth avoiding GTA 6 content on social media until after the official reveal.

An Official Showcase Is Coming

Rather than let leaks dominate the conversation, Rockstar is moving quickly. The studio confirmed it will present a proper look at GTA 6 during a Netflix event on August 27 at 3 PM ET, with the video subsequently posted to YouTube for everyone to watch.

Rockstar acknowledged the video took longer to put together than intended, but stressed that the goal is to exceed fan expectations — a confident statement given the enormous hype surrounding the game.

What This Means for Fans

• The official reveal on August 27 remains the best way to see GTA 6 as Rockstar intended
• The game's release date remains November 19, 2026
• Avoiding leak content now means a better first impression when you eventually play
