GTA 6 Looks Nothing Like GTA 5, Says Michael Actor

Ned Luke, who played Michael in GTA 5, has pushed back hard against claims that GTA 6 looks too similar to its predecessor.

Ned Luke Is Not Having It

Ned Luke, the actor who brought GTA 5's Michael De Santa to life, has come out swinging against a vocal group of doubters who argue that GTA 6 looks too similar to GTA 5. According to a report from IGN, Luke thinks anyone making that comparison is, to put it plainly, completely wrong.

It is a sentiment a lot of longtime fans will probably agree with. The two trailers Rockstar has released for GTA 6 showcase a level of visual detail, environmental density, and animation fidelity that represents a clear generational step beyond anything in GTA 5 — a game that originally launched back in 2013.

Why the Criticism Exists

The skepticism is not entirely surprising. GTA 5 has been re-released and updated so many times over the past decade that many players are still actively running around Los Santos today. When a new game arrives in the same broad visual style — open-world, third-person, modern setting — surface-level comparisons are inevitable.

That said, the jump from GTA 5 to GTA 6 involves:

  • A brand-new location in the fictional Leonida state, based on Florida
  • A dual-protagonist setup featuring Lucia as the lead character
  • Significantly overhauled physics, NPC behavior, and environmental systems
  • Next-gen console hardware as the primary target platform

What This Means Heading Into Launch

GTA 6 is currently scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, targeting PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

With launch still months away, it is natural for pre-release skepticism to circulate online. Rockstar has historically let the final product speak for itself, and cast members like Luke clearly believe it will do exactly that. Keep an eye on /news for any further updates as the release window approaches.
