GTA 6 PEGI Rating Reveals Graphic Violence and Drug Use
A since-deleted PEGI listing for GTA 6 described detailed decapitation and frequent drug use, including cocaine use by protagonists.
What the PEGI Listing Said
A PEGI rating entry for GTA 6 appeared online briefly before being taken down, but not before its contents were widely noted. According to PC Gamer, the listing described the game as containing detailed depictions of decapitation alongside what it called "frequent and prominent" drug use. It also specifically noted that the two playable protagonists, Jason and Lucia, are able to snort cocaine directly from their hands — apparently at any point during gameplay, not just in scripted story moments.
The listing has since been removed, though the circumstances around why it was pulled so quickly remain unclear.
What This Means in Practice
None of this is especially surprising for a GTA title, but the specifics are worth noting:
- Decapitation suggests a higher ceiling for gore than previous entries in the series
- On-demand drug use implies it may function as a gameplay mechanic rather than a pure story beat, similar to how alcohol worked in GTA V
- A PEGI 18 rating was always a certainty, but the language used points to the ratings board flagging these elements as particularly prominent
PEGI ratings are issued by an independent European body and are generally reliable indicators of a game's final content, even when listings appear ahead of schedule.
Still on Track for November 2026
This leak doesn't affect the release timeline — GTA 6 is still scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026. A formal PEGI 18 rating will almost certainly be confirmed closer to launch alongside an official ESRB designation for North American markets.
