GTA 6 preloading begins November 12, a full week before the November 19 launch. Here's what digital and physical buyers need to know.

Preloading Starts a Week Early

If you're planning to jump into GTA 6 the moment it goes live on November 19, 2026, you'll want to take advantage of the early preload window. Rockstar has confirmed that players who preorder a digital copy can begin downloading the game as early as November 12 — a full seven days before launch. The early download is specifically designed to make sure everyone is ready to play right at launch without sitting through a massive day-one download.

What About Physical Copies?

Here's something worth knowing: GTA 6 will not ship on a traditional disc. Despite that, Rockstar is still offering physical retail packages through stores like GameStop and Walmart. These boxes contain a download code rather than a disc.

The good news is that physical copies will also hit store shelves on November 12, giving buyers the chance to grab their code and kick off the preload at the same time as digital preorders. Just keep in mind that the game itself won't unlock regardless of format until November 19.

File Size: Expect Something Big

Rockstar hasn't officially announced the file size for GTA 6 yet, so take any figures you see online with a grain of salt for now. That said, expectations are running high — GTA 5 alone can top 100 GB depending on the platform, and GTA 6 represents a generational leap in scope and detail. It would be wise to start clearing some storage space sooner rather than later.

Quick tip: Check your console or PC storage now. If GTA 5 needed over 100 GB, GTA 6 could easily surpass that. Free up space before November 12 so your preload finishes without interruption.
