GTA 6 Preorders Could Hit 25 Million at Launch
An industry analyst estimates GTA 6 could rack up 25 million preorders by release, generating roughly $2 billion before it even ships.
Staggering Preorder Estimates Before Marketing Even Kicks Off
GTA 6 preorders opened in late June and immediately broke records — Take-Two Interactive described demand as "unprecedented," though the company has stopped short of releasing a specific number, citing concerns about misleading investors. Now, an outside analytics firm is putting some figures to the hype.
Karl Kontus, SVP and GM of video game insights at Sensor Tower, estimates that GTA 6 could accumulate around 25 million preorders by the time the game releases on November 19, 2026. At standard pricing, that volume would translate to roughly $2 billion in revenue — enough, Kontus suggests, to cover the game's development costs and a large portion of its marketing spend, based on publicly known industry benchmarks. Neither the production nor the marketing budget has been officially disclosed by Rockstar or Take-Two.
The Marketing Push Hasn't Even Started Yet
What makes this estimate even more striking is the timing. Kontus noted that GTA 6's major marketing campaign has not yet launched — that push is expected to begin with a new trailer airing on Netflix on August 27. If history is any guide, the biggest wave of preorders typically arrives in the final week or two before launch, meaning these numbers could climb significantly higher.
Keep in mind these are third-party analyst projections, not figures confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two. Treat them as informed estimates, not official data.
What This Means for Players
- High demand may put pressure on retailers and digital storefronts around launch day — preordering early could help secure bonuses or avoid delays.
- A massive sales cushion before day one gives Rockstar financial breathing room, which could be good news for post-launch content and GTA 6 Online.
- The Netflix trailer event on August 27 is shaping up to be a major moment — expect fresh gameplay details and likely a surge in preorder activity shortly after.
