GTA 6 Publisher Boss: AI Won't Replace Developers
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says AI tools will enhance creativity at Rockstar and beyond, not cut jobs or reduce development costs.
Zelnick Doubles Down on Pro-Worker AI Stance
During a recent Take-Two Interactive investor call, CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed growing industry anxiety around artificial intelligence and its impact on game development jobs. His message was straightforward: AI is coming, but it isn't a replacement for human talent.
"Those tools are not going to replace anyone," Zelnick stated, echoing comments he made during a similar call back in 2025, when he pledged that Take-Two would not use AI adoption as a justification for layoffs.
Creativity Comes First at Take-Two
Zelnick framed the company's philosophy around people, not platforms. With roughly 13,000 employees worldwide — many of them working creatively on a daily basis — he described creativity as Take-Two's foremost priority.
His argument is that AI should serve as a tool to amplify what those developers already do well, rather than act as a shortcut around them. Notably, he also pushed back on the idea that leaning into AI would dramatically cut costs, suggesting the real upside lies in quality improvements rather than budget savings.
Zelnick's position: AI can "meaningfully increase the quality" of games, but it won't make them cheaper to build.
What This Means for GTA 6
For fans waiting on GTA 6, this is quietly reassuring context. Rockstar Games is Take-Two's flagship studio, and any AI strategy adopted at the corporate level will shape how the game is developed and supported post-launch. A philosophy that prioritises human creativity over cost-cutting automation suggests the studio's ambition for the title — set for release on November 19, 2026 — remains firmly intact.
- AI tools may assist with things like NPC dialogue variety, world detail, or QA testing
- Jobs and creative direction remain in human hands, per Zelnick's public commitment
- No suggestion that AI adoption will affect GTA 6's current development timeline
