Fans sharp enough to recognise a distinctive voice struck gold recently when many correctly identified veteran character actor Stephen Root as the voice behind Brian Heder, described as a drug-runner, in GTA 6. Root himself put any remaining doubt to rest on September 13, 2026, when he publicly confirmed his involvement in the game.

Rockstar has yet to make any official casting announcements for GTA 6, so Root's confirmation came entirely from the actor himself rather than the studio. The identities of the two lead characters — Lucia and Jason — along with much of the broader cast, remain unconfirmed for now.

Emmy Glory One Day Later

The timing could hardly have been more dramatic. Just one day after confirming his GTA 6 role, Root took home a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in the show Widow's Bay. It was his first Emmy win.

The achievement places Root in rare company within the GTA franchise. He is only the second Emmy-winning actor to appear in a GTA title. The first was James Woods, who voiced the memorable Mike Toreno in GTA: San Andreas back in 2004. Woods holds three Emmy wins across his career, including two Primetime awards for lead acting roles in the late 1980s.
